The 2010 OEA Building A Better World Scholarship winners:

• Nyssa Swanson – Global Awareness ($1000)
• Ariel Burrington – Global Awareness ($1000)

Congratulations to Nyssa, Ariel, and Shelby.  Our 2010 winners are already on their way.   Each is enrolled and attending college full time – Ariel and Nyssa at Ferris and Shelby at MCC.  With the quality of the Global Awareness and Community Involvement applications, we decided not to select a Travel recipient in 2010 and instead doubled up on Global Awareness.  Please check separate links highlighted above to listen in to conversations with each of our three winners.  Nice job ladies.

The 2008 OEA Building A Better World Scholarship winners are:

• Rebecca Houseman – Global Awareness ($1000)
• Dani Patton – Global Awareness / Travel  ($1000)
• Margarita Contreras– Independent Travel ($1000)

Congratulations to Rebecca, Dani, and Margarita.  This year we had a couple of firsts.  We gave out our first combination Global Awareness / Travel scholarship to Dani Patton for a planned semester abroad at Northern Michigan University.  And Rebecca Houseman in addition to winning her own scholarship will be Margarita’s travel companion when they go to Portland, Oregon later this summer.  Please check separate links highlighted above to get a better insight into each of these fine young graduates.  Way to go gals.

The 2006 OEA Building A Better World Scholarship winners are:

• Renee Schmiege – Global Awareness ($700)
• Lyanne Wesley – Community Involvement ($700)
• Kristen Peabody – Independent Travel ($700)

Congratulations to Renee, Lyanne, and Kristen.  Kristen and Renee are both Close Up Washington Veterans.  Their involvement in the world extends outside of the classrom.  Lyanne was instrumental in the Oakridge School District fundraiser which brought over $1500 worth of books to inner city New Orleans kids, who had been devastated by Hurricane Katrina.   Please check separate links highlighted above to get a better insight into each of these graduates.

• Kendall Tejchma – Global Awareness ($700)
• Lyndsey Gibson – Community Involvement ($700)
• Amanda Taylor – Independent Travel ($700)

Congratulations to Kendall, Lyndsey, and Amanda- three thoroughly unique young ladies.  Lyndsey heads off this fall to American University in Washington D.C.  Kendall is enrolling at Hawaii University.  Oakridge has never sent a graduate to either school.  Amanda Taylor is traveling this summer to New York City to look for Cafe Societ where Billy Holiday sang of Strange Fruit back in the 1940’s and 50’s.  Please check separate links highlighted above to get a better insight into each of these three distinctive young people.
